The Clan Ventrue - Traditions and History
A Treatsy by Mr Jason Faustus Scorpio

Although this has already been touched upon previously under the responsibilities of the Directorate, it is a matter of tremendous import. While the Toreador manage to carry themselves with dignity, it is the Ventrue who are generally concerned with manners. While it has become fashionable of late to openly display emotion (and I am becoming guiltier of this myself) it is better to guard against such public Displays, it is not my intention to go into great detail on this matter, as it is largely common sense, but to mention only a few points.

Eye contact is an essential part of good manners. As we are all aware, it is an essential part of the powers of Domination. Therefore it presents a unique challenge for us. Other Kindred will be reluctant to meet our gaze, their concern regarding this power colouring their thinking. However, by meeting others gazes we show our good manners. Among ourselves eye contact becomes a matter of Trust. Should you refuse to meet a fellow Ventrue's gaze, you are stating quite simply that you believe that Kindred will attempt to hold sway over you with their gifts. And as one might expect, one should never hold gaze with a Tremere, for the reasons stated.

A further point that often fails to be addressed is that of personal affairs and business interests. It is best not to bring these up in casual conversation. This simple point seems to be the most forgotten in today's society. In a rush to get things done it has become commonplace to discuss business interests with all and sundry. A better approach to these things is to use astute investigations to discover who has the things that you require and then approach. Obviously this applies to out of clan dealings. Within the Directorate these matters should be discussed at regular meetings.
